In December 2021, Sue’s 14-year-old son, Hunter, was diagnosed with an aggressive Ewing\u2019s Sarcoma tumor in his lung. The family moved to St. Jude\/Memphis just four days after the diagnosis and lived there for 18 months. Hunter received exceptional care, and the family was provided a two-bedroom apartment.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur family loves St Jude!!! We were showered with love and everything we needed!<\/p>\n
Thanks to generous donations, we never received a bill! What a blessing!!<\/p>\n
Hunter once said to me, \u201cYou know Mom, we\u2019ve had peace and we\u2019ve had joy every day here, haven\u2019t we? To which I replied, \u201cOh Buddy, we sure have!!\u201d\ud83e\udd70<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n After his time in treatment, and a fabulous Make-A-Wish trip to Hawaii, his cancer aggressively spread. Just 2 weeks later he went home to Heaven, to live with Jesus whom he loves!!<\/p>\n We are, of course, heartbroken without him!! But, as long as we live, we will fight for other families and for better cures!! The only treatment that is currently available for Ewing\u2019s Sarcoma patients is a 50-year-old protocol! We must do better!<\/p>\n I love running with our Eureka to Peoria St Jude team!! It\u2019s such a sweet group of local friends, who share a selfless desire to help hurting families! I especially love knowing I\u2019m running for other kids who are battling cancer!<\/p>\n In 2022 Hunter and I were flown by a private flight from Memphis to come speak at the Eureka send off. Hunter felt so honored to get to speak!!\ud83d\udc9e<\/span><\/span> Thanks for giving him that gift!!\u201d<\/p>\n Thank you, Sue, for joining our run and for your dedication to helping all the kids of St. Jude. Kids like Hunter are the reason we do what we do. I am thankful he was able to speak at our 2022 send off.
